McGwire vs Merriman
Mark McGwire was not voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Now, the reason most people have said that they didn't vote for him was because they believe that he did steroids. The problem is of course that no testing was ever done on him. So its all speculation on if he did them or not although I personally do believe he did do them. (I also think steroids are good if taken properly, but thats another discussion in its own)
Now we have Shawne Merriman. He was suspended for 4 games for testing positive. He still is going to the Pro Bowl and was elected to the All-Defensive team.
What it seems to me is that many are giving a pass to Merriman after he failed a test and they are punishing McGwire after he never tested positive.
My personal feeling is that its all because of how people view the two sports. Football is a very intense , contact sport. While Baseball isn't the same it is a long season that wears down the body. I personally don't care that Merriman or any other player use steriods. I think as long as they are used properly they should be allowed.
Anyways, my question is this. Do you think there is a double standard among fans and media in regards to the two sports and steriod use? Also, do you think that part of the reason people are outraged at Baseball players is they don't want to see someone juiced beating probably the most honored record in all of sports, the Home Run record?
