So any other Canadians/CFL fans on here? Honestly, this has to be one of the best Grey Cups I've ever watched (helped that my favourite team won). Just a fantastic game.
I guess I'll save comments till I see if anyone cares.
Go Esks!

The Edmonton Eskimos won 38-35 in overtime against the Montreal Alouettes.
The first half was a defensive struggle that resulted in the Eskimos leading 10-1 at the break. The offensive exploded in the second half with Montreal completing passes to the one yard line on each of their first two drives of the second half (scoring one-yard plunges on both). The Eskimos got a field goal in between and the Alouettes got one on their third possession of the half to make it 18-13. On the insuing kickoff Edmonton's rookie kickoff returner Tony Thompkins scored a Grey Cup record 96-yard touchdown to give the Eskimos back the lead.
In the fourth quarter the Alouettes once again got it to the one and after a handoff on the first two touchdowns the QB Anthony Calvillo ran a naked bootleg to regain the lead. The Eskimos answered with a score of their own and a two-point conversion...28-25 Edmonton with 1:03 to go. The Alouettes hit a field goal as time expired to send it to overtime.
Overtime in the CFL works that each offense starts their drive at the opponents 35 and its a shootout style (whoever gets the most points on their possession wins, and if they tie, it gets repeated)...
Both scored on nice passing plays on the first possessions and after a Edmonton field goal their defense came up huge when they knocked the pass back into the QB's hands who threw it again (resulted in a 10-yard penalty) on first down. A sack on second down made it 3rd and 31 (which is last down for those of you that are unfamiliar with Canadian rules)...they once again brought pressure and the QB was forced to run...tried a desperation punt but it was smothered...Esks win...
Great game

I did see a mention of this on ESPN, but they really didnt say alot about it.
I think they should air some of the CFL games on ESPN or ESPN2 cause I think itd be nice to watch. I watch some of the Arena games and im sure Id watch some canadien football as well. Im just a football junky, and even with bigger field and only 3 downs (thats nuts) it would be a fun game to watch. Guess they dont have too many rushing attempts up there with only 3 downs either.
Well yeah...with the three downs there isn't as much rushing, but there is still a bit...the leading rusher this year (Charles Roberts of Winnipeg) averaged about 16 carries and 90 yards per game. For whatever reason the average yards per carry in the CFL (among the "starting HBs") is a good yard to yard and a half higher then those in the NFL in most cases.

There are nine teams seperated into two divisions. They play 18 regular season games with the winner of each division getting a bye in the first round of the playoffs. The second place team in each division host the first round against the next two best teams (it used to be third from each conference but they recently allowed the fourth place team from one take the other divisions spot if they have a better record)

i remember watching a bit of that game.... like how that qb threw the ball twice in one play lol
I like the canadian overtime setup tho
and how do u score one point?
Im guessin they pass alot more cuz wr s are allowed to start runnin before the ball is snapped and the endzone is huuuuuge. even if ur in the red zone...u can still bomb that pass in the back of the endzone
Yeah the endzone is alot deeper (10 yards deeper I believe, maybe its 15)...you one point by kicking the ball into/through the endzone and the other team not getting it back out....(basically a touchback in the NFL) though the much larger endzone and the goalposts at the front of the endzone means that missed FGs can be returned most of the time (which I loved and was curious about in Madden to the point I didn't know it was allowed until Vasher did it earlier in the season)

Didn't Nathan Vasher return that short field goal however many yards for the TD a couple weeks ago? It just doesn't happen much because most kicks don't miss short (which is the only way you're returning on in the NFL).
I am not really sure who came up with the overtime thing or who got the idea from whom.

The 20 yard endzone makes the game seem well weird to me. I occasionally watch CFL but only if nothing else is on. Whats the team that plays in Dark Blue? I liked them.

It may have been Toronto, not sure, they have a guy like Number 5 or something who looked pretty sick.

Yeah blue is the Toronto Argonauts. #5 would be WR Arland Bruce...I can't say I've watched many Argo games to really comment on him (though he is a top receiver)

The name rings a bell. He made like 3 one handed grabs, he looked skilled.

As long as the kick never touches the ground, a missed field goal can be returned. Aaron Glenn did it against the Colts in 1998 and held the previous record with a 105 yard return I believe. But it was nothing compared to Vasher's awesome return.
