Indiana is nearing a three-team trade that would send swingman Ron Artest to the Los Angeles Lakers, a league source has told ProBasketballNews.com.
Meanwhile, Lakers forward Devean George would end up in Indiana.
The third team involved in the proposed trade is the Toronto Raptors, according to the source. The Raptors would send Jalen Rose to Los Angeles -- and in return receive Pacers forward Austin Croshere and at least one player from the Lakers.
The source added that George and an undetermined player from the Raptors -- or perhaps a draft pick -- would be to dealt to the Pacers.
"Basically, it's Artest for Devean George, with the Raptors getting involved to make it work financially," the source said. "When and if it happens, this will be a trade that consists of plenty of throw-ins."
Three weeks ago, Artest told the Indianapolis Star that he wanted to be traded. He later apologized to his teammates and told management he would like to remain with the team. But Pacers president Larry Bird told The Indianapolis Star on Monday that he felt "betrayed" by Artest, and said the Pacers will indeed trade him.
Artest has been inactive since his comments about wanting to be traded, which came after he was injured against Dallas on Dec. 6. Since then, the Pacers have been flooded with trade requests.
Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh told the Associated Press on Wednesday the team had narrowed its options down from about 10 teams this week, but did not indicate when a trade might occur.
Artest averaged 19.4 points and 4.9 rebounds through 16 games this season. He was suspended for 73 games last year after the well-documented brawl during a game in Detroit.
Croshere is averaging 8.1 points and 6.3 rebounds for the Pacers, while Rose is scoring 9.6 points in just 25 minutes per game -- his lowest averages in both categories in nine seasons.
George is also near his career lows in scoring (5.6 ppg) and field-goal percentage (38 percent).
The source said he was not given a timetable as to when the proposed trade might take place. "I hear they are very close to finalizing everything, he said, "but it sounds like there are a few kinks that still need to be worked out."
Hmmm...Lakers get Ron Artest and Jalen Rose, and give Devean George? Yeah right...
Artest said he wants to go somewhere where he can take more shots. In LA? With Kobe and his 30 shots per game?
The Pacers have already said that they were surprised by the quality of the offers they have been receiving. I'm sure that Ron Artest and Austin Croshere for Devean George isn't one of the "quality offers" that they speak of.
"Basically, it's Artest for Devean George, with the Raptors getting involved to make it work financially," the source said. "When and if it happens, this will be a trade that consists of plenty of throw-ins
Thats the important part of it. I would bet the Pacers would get more than just George if this deal was to happen.
Actually I'm surprised they haven't sent him to Atlanta for Al Harrington, lol
Today in a game between the Lakers and the Suns, LA Laker Ron Artest got mad when a LA fan called him an 'overrated cocoa pebble' after Artest was ejected from a game for pooring beer on an official.
Artest lept into the stand and went after another fan, obviously confused with who had made the comment. The man did not know why Artest was attacking him since he had done nothing worng, but when faced with the rabid Artest he decided to fight back, and beat Ron Artest until 5 other fans finally pulled him off Artest, by that time Artest was a disfigured mess and was clearly beyond any posible attempts to save his life.
The Fan that Artest attacked was taken out in handcuffs and we are being told he will be charged with manslaughter.. his only comment upon leaving in cuffs was "I'll be back"
We later caught up with the fan that called Artest the names to begin with, but his only comment was "You can't handle the truth!"
It was a crazy night in LA...
This is what happens if Artest goes to LA

First off, an opinion cannot be wrong....its an OPINION
Ok, good. In my opinion, you're an idiot. Good thing I can't be wrong!

For the salaries to work in this deal, the other player would have to Kobe or Lamar Odom... It won't be Kobe and if its Lamar... Well, you can either start the bust that is Kwame Brown or go with.... *drumroll* Luke Walton... or maybe Medvedenko
Lakers Lineup
PG Rose/Parker
SG Bryant
SF Artest
PF Odom
C Brown/Mihm
Thats pretty frickin good!
It seems to me that Phil Jackson is setting up his mold for another amazing team liek he had in the 90s. Ront Artest would merely be his Dennis Rodman. Rose in place of Harper, Bryant in place of jordan, Odom in place of Pippen and Mihm in place of Longley. Think about it, its just a new version of the 90's Bulls.
I don't think Artest would accept the role of Rodman.
Ron Harper?? You mean John Paxon, Craig Hodges, Bj Armstrong...Harper was a lil before that time when they were winning.
You would be correct...for the early 90s. The last two championships, the pg position was filled by none other than Ron Harper and occasionally Randy Brown.
Artest is crazy, believe you me, if Jackson can get him to buy into the system...It could be great.
yup I was wrong. I couldn't exactly remember when they won their championships. I knew it was in the 90's, but I was thinking Ron Harper was still with Cleveland, which he was still the real early 90's. My bad.

By looking at the years he played. He won rings with Chicago in 95-96, 96-97, 97-98; and with LAL in 99-00 and 00-01. So he can be pretty much in the same boat as Robert Horry.
93-94 and 94-95 with Houston.
99-00, 00-01, and 01-02 with LAL.
04-05 with SAS.

This trade won't work. The guy is a loose cannon and when he figures out how much clout Kobe has he'll throw another temper tamtrum. The guy has an ego the size of a whale and a brain the size of a tic-tac. I don't even think he'll be in the leauge in 2 years.
What ever happened to artest being traded? Is he just roting in Indiana?
The Pacers don't want to give him up for nothing which from reports is really what most teams are offering considering that Artest is viewed as one of the top 10 players in the league.
One big hangup right now appears to be his contract. Artest signed a small, multi-year deal. Because most teams are capped out or close to it they can't trade what the Pacers consider true value to get Artest.
So yeah, he is just sitting at home doing nothing as of right now. Very similar to what was done with T.O. The Pacers are paying him to stay away.
