Which game winning shot is of greater significance, Kobe Bryants shot in game 2 of the NBA finals, or Derek Fishers game winning shot in game 5 of the western confernce finals??
Game 5, because it was Derek Fisher, who they weren't expecting. That's gotta be a dagger in the heart, when you shut Kobe down, you shut Deven George down, but then the player you weren't expecting hits a crazy shot. Also, it was game 5, that makes it more significant too. Huge turning point in the series.

Okay, say Fisher doesn't make the shot. It's 3-2, Lakers are down. The T-wolves know they can knock off the best team in the game today, so they have more heart in game 6. But let's say the Timberwolves lose that game... They're going back to their homecourt with a chip on their shoulder.

OK lets say Kobe misses that shot.. the lakers are down 0-2 to the pistons who are a team who is an extreme underdog and playing thier hearts out to try to win these games.... then the lakers have to go play 3 at Detroit.. are the gonna win 2 of those 3 and even if they do they still would need to win the next two at home having lost the first two at home...
Thats why I say tie....

It's not like the shot was a last second game-winner. The Lakers won... by 9. I'm not saying that shot wasn't insane, but the Lakers still could've pulled it off without it. There might not have been much chance, but they could've.

DID YOU WATCH THE GAME???
The lakers were down 3 (having been down 8 only 30 seconds before). THEY HAD NO TIMEOUTS LEFT... and kobe hit that shot (from 6 feet back of the 3 pt line) leaving 2 seconds on the clock basically sending the game into overtime...
Wow.. I know you aren't debating on something you didn't watch...!!!

Meh I meant if he had passed it to an open player... but whatever. The point of the post was to state that someone else may have been able to hit it, once Fisher caught it he HAD to shoot the ball.

I guess the point of the thread was to offer your opinions on who's game winning shot was more important, or meant more to the Lakers as a team. I think both shots were simply amazing.
In terms of importance, it's got to be Fisher's shot in Game 5. If they would have lost that, it's a pretty safe bet that they wouldn't be in the finals. Imagine, the Spurs up 3-2, Duncan just hit his amazing game winning shot that would have done exactly to the Lakers as Fisher's shot did to the Spurs...it would have crushed them. The Spurs or T-Wolves would be playing right now. I don't know what the percentage is in 2/2 series' with the game 5 winner winning the series, but I'm sure it is extremely high. Especially for the team with home court advantage. If Kobe misses that shot last night, they're down 0-2. So what...they already came back from that deficit once against the defending champions.
In terms of shot difficulty, they're pretty equal, though I give Fisher's the slight edge. His shot is just a prayer...catch it, throw it towards the basket all in one motion. Kobe had a chance to dribble, get a little rythm going, and he took a balanced shot without fading away.
Ugh, look at me...analyzing the Lakers. I think I'm gonna vomit.
C'mon, its way to early to tell.... The Lakers needed Fishers shot to win. And with it, they eventually won the series. If the Lakers win all three in Motown, Kobe's shot doesn't hold as much importance. If the Pistons win the series, the shot is moot. Let's wait and see what impact the shot had on the series.
that game 5 shot made the series 3-2 instead of 2-3... this shot made it 1-1 instead of 0-2 with 2 home losses...
Fishers shot was better but this one was MORE needed....
ditto
Quote:
I think they were both awesome
ditto again

But that was not two HOME losses with 3 away games to go...
If the Pistons win the series, the shot is moot.
Both shots are moot.. I mean if you don't win it all why win any of it?
I guess the problem here is that people think the Pistons are still some pushover team... they think the lakers couldn't come back from 2-3 against the spurs but think that 0-2 at home going to detroit with 3 games to play is nothing to overcome...
Also did you hear the Pistons in the interviews after that game?? THEY WERE CRUSHED... The Spurs after the Fisher shot.. they were like oh welll luck happens we can still win.. the Pistons are devestated.. and the thing is everyone saw fisher's shot as luck... even Shaq, so its like yeah fisher hit this shot.. but don't ever expect him to do it again...
Kobe hits the shot and its like Kobe hit that shot and he ALWAYS does this, we just can't win because he will will the win over us...
of course thats just my opinion
