(U-WIRE) LAWRENCE, Kan. -- In the most surprising of the offseason departures from the Kansas men's basketball program, freshman forward David Padgett announced Thursday his intention to transfer following the spring semester.
Padgett is the third player, joining freshman Omar Wilkes and sophomore Moulaye Niang, to transfer from the program since the season's end. Padgett's departure also means the Jayhawks have three open scholarships as they begin preparations for next season.
"I think I'll have more opportunities to be a face-up player and play the four-position at another school," Padgett said. "I want to wish my ex-teammates and the great KU fans all the best, and I hope they have a great season next year."
The Jayhawks will now return two big men from last year's team that advanced to the Elite Eight: Junior Wayne Simien and sophomore Christian Moody. Padgett's empty spot in next year's starting lineup will need to be filled by either Moody or one of coach Bill Self's two new big men, recruits Darnell Jackson and Sasha Kaun.
"Obviously we're all disappointed with David's decision," Self said. "Even though we don't agree with it, we're certainly respectful of it. We do wish him well with his future opportunities."
God damn it. This really gets me here. As you all know, I love the Jayhawks, so how can we have 3 players transfer that were going to be key next year. I can swear that Roy Williams has something to do this, and if Padgett winds up in Chapel Hill next year I'll be screaming "FOUL." Damn it, I liked Padgett too.

Shoot man, it kills me inside. He reminded me too much of me. Tall white boy, black hair, wears #44. Shoot, if he didn't have such a messed up chin he'd be an older me. But now he's gone. I swear if he winds up at UNC I'll be so pissed off.
