There are 2 ways that I read the defense. 1 if you want to get a handle on wether they are in man or zone send a reciever in motion and see if the corner goes with him the whole way. Now most of the time when i throw it is going to be a deep post, corner, or streak.

Thats when your first read should be the safety to that side. They will drop automatically if they are in zone, then depending on the route just place the ball out of the corners reach.

If they are in zone however you just have to know where the weakness is in that zone. I.E. cover 2 is the weakes between the safety and here is a seam in cover 3 behind the linebackers but in front of the safeties,\.
