It looks like the Mets won the bidding war for Pedro Martinez. The two sides have agreed in principle on a four-year deal worth $56 million, according to ESPN. Martinez went 16-9 with 3.90 ERA and 227 strikeouts last season for the Red Sox.

Martinez will join Tom Glavine, Kirk Benson, and Victor Zambrano to form one of the best rotations in the National League nest season. Martinez is coming off his worst season in years, with an ERA that was a full run higher than he had in any other season as a Red Sox. But he still has three quality pitches and will be motivated to prove that Boston should have resigned him, so he will enter 2005 as one of the top pitchers in the National League.
