[Piscataway, New Jersey]-- The Rutgers Scarlet Knights yearly beginning of summer training camp has allowed coach
Greg Schiano to make some key decisions.
Schiano was forced to make a tough call, with both
Blair Bines and
Ryan D'Imperio slated to play left outside linebacker. Schiano decided that Bines will be moving over to the right side, allowing freshman
Manny Abreu some more time to progress.
Also, athletic recruit
Ben Weber will be converted to a right outside linebacker, making him a third string player.
Schiano also had another tough task on his schedule, as he decided which players would be cut from the Scarlet Knights.
Two freshman recruits, defensive tackle
Ramon Curtis and receiver
Jack Hayward, both were cut from the team.
Others cut from the team include, quarterback
Andrew DePaola, halfback
Rami Nubani, left end
Brian Bradshaw, outside linebacker
Chris Quaye, and cornerback
Joe Lefegd.
"It was real tough to make these decisions," said Schiano.
"Especially for a couple of these guys who have been with us over these past runs we've made, we're going to miss them, but with this way maybe they can transfer to another school."
With perhaps the hardest part of training camp done with, all that is left on Schiano's offseason schedule is to decide who will be redshirted and to set his depth chart. We should hear within a couple of days the redshirted Scarlet Knights.
