[Piscataway, New Jersey]-- Greg Schiano came into the offseason recruiting stages looking to land a tight end, defensive tackle, middle linebacker, and an outside linebacker. He crossed three of those needs of the list with just one week of recruiting.
Schiano was able to land three recruits, and a transfer from Tennessee during his first week.
"We're excited with what we've been able to do here with this first week," said Schiano.
"I'm not sure these guys will play pivotal roles on this years team, but they will definately have an impact down the road."
Schiano was surprised to learn that tight end
Luke Stocker, a redshirted freshman last year at Tennessee, will be transfering into his program this year.
"That kid has a ton of upside," said Schiano.
Stocker will be forced to sit out this upcoming season, due to NCAA rules, but should split time with
Shamar Graves next season once
Kevin Brock graduates.
In addition to Stocker, Schiano also landed three recruits. The first was a natural athlete, who is expected to be switched into an outside linebacker.
Ben Weber, out of Bristol, Pa. stands at 6'0 and 191 pounds. Weber was also getting interest from Pittsburgh and Maryland.
Schiano's second recruit could prove to be the best of this three man group he's landed thus far. Outside linebacker
Shaun Jackson, out of Indiana, Pa., committed after just one week. Jackson is a 5'11, 222 pound linebacker that possesses a ton of speed from the outside. He was also looking at Maryland.
The final recruit of the first stage of recruiting for Schiano was a defensive tackle.
Chris Floyd, a 6'5 262 pound tackle, is out of San Marcos, Texas. Floyd was also considering Syracuse and Texas A&M.
Rutgers is also rumored to be targeting quarterback
Anthony Clark, who the team believes to be close to committing.
"Clark is going to be a good quarterback," said Schiano.
"No matter what school he chooses to attend, whoever lands him is going to have a special player under their belts."
