My Madden 2008 Wishlist
Hi guys. I'm new to this board but I've been playing Madden for years on a variety of platforms.
1. As many others have mentioned, the tackling needs to be fixed. Gang tackling is a must; it drives me crazy when 3-4 guys just stand around and watch while a RB spins away and runs 80 yards for a touchdown.
2. There needs to be a way to set an all-out blitz where the blitzers do not bite on play action. Look, if I'm sending 8 people after the quarterback, I'm taking betting I can get to him or my D-backs will be toasted. Why, all-of-a-sudden, when they all turn towards a back on play action. Most of the time, it's 3rd and really long when I try this, so I don't even give a cr*p if the back gets loose for 10 yards.
3. AI on blitzers needs to be adjusted so they don't just dive straight at the line. If you set manually set a blitz and line, say a cornerback on the line 10 feet outside the end, the first think he'll do is run strait at the side of the line which result in the offense tackle blocking 2 people. Look, the reason why I line a cornerback at the line and sent him at the cornerback is to put pressure on the outside. Please DO NOT make him run straight at the line. That's asinine.
4. PLEASE do something about passing on the run. The QBs are just too accurate when running at full speed. Seriously, there are a few QBs in the NFL that can throw accurately on the run, but NONE of them can throw accurately at full sprint. It just doesn't make sense. I have never ever never seen a QB in the NFL run at a full sprint away from his target, rear up and throw a bullet. Yes, QBs in the NFL do throw well on the move, but they are not running flat out. When they are being chased and running flat out, real QBs can't even get the ball above their shoulders. They simply cannot just gun the ball 60 yards and throw a strike across the field on the dead run. This has never happened in the NFL, but it happens all the time in the game.
5. They need to adjust the AI on DB so they tip the ball back at receivers after it is thrown over their heads. If the ball is overthrown, then just let it go, or maybe try to pick it all. Don't bat the ball right back at the receiver. I can still see it in my nightmares, as my safeties hit balls that are already uncatchable right back at the receiver.
6. On a related note, please make it so that when a ball is thrown at a defense player and nobody else is near him, at least try to make an interception. It drives me nuts when I force a bad pass, the ball is just floating out there and the only person for 30 yards is my safety, standing there all by himself with the ball coming right at him. And what does he do? He swats it to the ground. Would that ever really happen in the NFL? No. Sure DBs might drop catchable interceptions, but they will at least make an attempt if nobody else is near them. Also, another related issue - if a real floater comes at a defensive back and they are wide open, their chance of making an INT should be improved. Right now, it seems like they have the same chance of intercepting a ball whether it is gunned and they dive for it in a crowd, or whether they get a floater with nobody around. In the NFL, even the absolute worst DBs will catch a great majority of the floaters if there is nobody around them - they are professional athletes you know.
7. For the love of god, PLEASE do something about the spinning. Spinning running backs, to me, is like playing against people who spin the paddles in foosball. It's just a totally asinine thing to do. There are so many people out there who have no clue how to run the ball, but they just take one of the elite backs, run them at the edge of the line and then hit the spin button 2-3 times. It's a totally moronic way to play, and the game shouldn't reward people for utilizing a repetitive and stupid move. In the NFL, the best back will gain an advantage maybe 1 or 2 times a game by spinning out of a crowd. The reality is that backs almost never turn their backs to the line, especially when they are in a crowd. The risk of getting clocked and getting knocked unconscious is too great. Please make it so that it takes some skill to decide when to spin - make it so that it isn't just a matter of doing it every single time.
8. Another peve is that if you set a defense with deep safeties, they should know NEVER to allow a receiver to get behind them. Especially if you also drop them back. It makes me insane when I set 8 DBs, including moving 2 safeties really deep, only to watch 6 of my defensive players chase a wide receiver that has gotten behind them. There has to be some way to set it so that a receiver cannot get behind them. That's why, in the NFL, if a team is 80 yards a way with time running out, they must try a trick play like a hook and lateral or hope for a tipped ball or something. There's simply no way that anyone could ever dream of throwing a hail mary with time running out and hoping that their receiver could just run by the defense and catch the ball behind everyone - it just doesn't make sense.
I'm also with you guys on many of the other issues that have already been mentioned. Looking forward to an improved version next year.
